A district is headed by a District Magistrate (DM). A tehsil is a sub-division of a district headed by a Tehsildar, handling land records, revenue collection, and local administration.

Tehsil details are required for DigiShakti eKYC, ration card applications, UP scholarship forms, Bhulekh land records, and income/caste certificates. Using the wrong tehsil name causes form rejection.
