How to apply — step by step
  1. Visit scholarship.up.gov.in — this is the only official portal
  2. Complete OTR (One Time Registration) with your Aadhaar — mandatory from 2026-27 onwards
  3. Click New Registration under Students menu — choose your correct category portal (SC/ST/OBC/Minority/General)
  4. Fill the application form — enter course, institution, family income, and bank details carefully
  5. Upload all documents — income certificate must be from Tehsildar, caste certificate must be valid
  6. Submit and download the hard copy — submit to your college by the deadline
  7. Your college verifies and forwards to the district committee — track status on the portal
  8. After approval, scholarship amount is credited directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT

First installment: January–February after application. Second installment: March–April. The 2025-26 second installment was released on March 18, 2026. If your application is approved by the district committee and Aadhaar is seeded to your bank account, money arrives within 3–7 working days of PFMS processing.
Check your status on PFMS at pfms.nic.in using your bank account number. Most common reason for non-payment: Aadhaar not seeded to your bank account. Visit your bank branch to link Aadhaar to your account. If PFMS shows payment sent, contact your bank. If PFMS shows no payment, visit the District Social Welfare Office.
Yes. These are completely separate schemes managed by different departments. Receiving one has no effect on eligibility for the other. Apply for both if you qualify.
Yes, from academic year 2026-27 onwards, OTR (One Time Registration) with Aadhaar is mandatory before applying for UP Scholarship. If you applied in previous years, use your existing credentials and complete OTR with your Aadhaar before the portal opens in July.
